The 3D Security Initiative creates and facilitates forums for consensus-building discussions on critical policy issues, such as the following events.

On October 30, 2008 3D organized and co-hosted a conference in the Cannon Building in Congress entitled Building Whole of Community Conflict Prevention. 160 people participated in the conference discussions on how civil society can work together with the US government and military to prevent violent conflict and address the root causes of today's security challenges.

On June 30, 2008 3D co-hosted two panels, one in Congress and one at the Stimson Center, on the Military’s Role in Development with the Stimson Center and the Society for International Development. The panel brought experts together to discuss concerns and opportunities in the Pentagon’s growing role in development.

On June 18, 2008 3D co-hosted te Security-Immigration Nexus Roundtable with the Migration Policy Institute. The roundtable brought together diverse leaders in national security, human rights, economic development, and faith-based humanitarian groups, to distinguish between economic migration and terrorism issues.

On June 14, 2008 3D co-hosted the Options for Managing the Iranian Nuclear Challenge Conference with the International Civil Society Network and the American Foreign Policy Project. This conference assembled the nation’s top Iran Experts to develop a consensus policy document recommending a diplomatic agenda. Click here to read the Joint Statement on Iran.

On June 2, 2008 3D hosted a Civil Society and Security Roundtable at Eastern Mennonite University. This roundtable brought international civil society leaders together with U.S. military, government, think tank and advocacy leaders to discuss the inclusion of civil society in conflict analysis, policy planning, training and operational forums for dialogue.

On January 30, 2008 3D co-hosted Building an Infrastructure for Conflict Prevention with the Center for New American Security, the Friends Committee on National Legislation and the White House Project. The one-day meeting  brought together 80 policy advocates in Washington to coordinate efforts to build U.S. civilian capacity in foreign policy.

On November 4, 2007 3D co-hosted the Climate Change and Conflict Prevention Roundtable with the Woodrow Wilson’s Center for International Scholar’s Environmental Change and Security Program. Humanitarian NGOs, conflict resolution groups, State Department, USAID and US military scholars discussed how conflict prevention programs can address conflicts related to climate change.
